Can I put a sim card in another phone?

My roommate dropped his week old Razr in a glass of water and its not working. The phone company is sending him a new phone in a week. In the meantime...

I have an extra phone. It's not activated and it's from Tmobile while my roommates phone and sim card are from Sprint (i think). he thinks he can just stick the sim card in my phone and he'll get service. I say nay. Can this be done?

Sprint doesn't use GSM so he can't drop his sim card into a Sprint phone. If it was Cingular & T-Mobile, more likely. The phone must be unlocked, however.

Not if the phone is locked.

sprint doesn't offer the razr; and sprint doesn't run on inferior GSM equipment, so doesn't have the sim card either.
