can I put a AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (Barton) 333 FSB 512K in a...board that was meant for 200 mhz bus processors???
Such as an abit KR7A Raid board.
Then just ramp up the front side bus to 333mhz?\
actually that board supports both 200mhz fsb and 266mhz fsb
but no it doesnt support the 333mhz fsb and it probably wont be able to run at that speed even if overclocked
im 90% sure that board doesnt have a 1/5th pci divider so if you did manage to overclock the fsb to 166mhz (333mhz ddr) your pci and agp bus would be way out of spec and could kill pci/agp devices, not to mention lack of stability
also im pretty sure it doesnt even support the barton voltage requirements (meaning even if you were willing to run the barton underclocked on a 133mhz fsb it still might not work)
but your board should work fine with an xp2600+ (266) if you can find one
most of the xp2600+ cpu's are the 333fsb chips, but the 266fsb chips can be found
your right, a video card would help more then just increasing to from your current xp1900+
if you want an nvidia card you should check out the brand new 5700ultra (its around $200) and much faster then the 5600ultra... and is the only nvidia card i would even look at right now
if you want ATI you should be looking at anything between the 9600 pro and higher
when you match the ati cards with the comparable nvidia cards (meaning the cards in the same price range) the ati cards dominate the nvidia cards with the exection of the midrange (ie sub $200 cards) there its very close between the 5700ultra and the 9600xt
