hello can i put 2x1GB in dual channel on EPOX 9NPA+ Ultra? Is it better(cheaper) to put two pairs of 512 MB?

You need to check your mobo's manual to confirm it, but there's no reason any modern mobo can't support two 1Gb memory sticks. Because of the very finicky nature of dual channel memory timing I'd definately go with 1 pair versus 2 pairs. Also, don't experiment - dual channel timing is very critical and buying just any memory you get a good price on will probably result in frustration (just scan these forums and see how many people have problems with new memory). Do yourself a big favor and use the online memory configurator at Crucial.com or Corsair.com (most of the major memory manufacturers have on on their website) and look up the part number that's specifically designed to work with your mobo.

The next question I have to ask is WHY 2Gb? For most people 1Gb is more than enough - even for serious gaming (the one exception possibly being Battlefield 2). Unless you're using a specialized memory-hungry app like AutoCAD, VMWare or Photoshop, 2 Gb is a waste of money.

Yes, that motherboard supports dual channel configuration, so you'll be able to run any even amount (2,4) sticks of DDR in dual channel. If you have a Venice or San Diego core, I'd go with 512MBx4 because even though it's not upgradable, by the time you need more than 2GB, you'll probably need a new mobo anyways. If you don't have a Venice or San Diego core, 1GBx2 would be desirable, since Clawhammer/Newcastle/Winchester core processor can't run 4 sticks of RAM at 400mhz like it's supposed to. It automatically downclocks them to 333mhz.

If you're going to go that route, i'd recommend the OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum Rev. 2. I'm running that memory in my system now and its awesome. I got it from newegg.com, and their price has already gone down on a 1GB Dual Channel Kit. Its like $174.99 now plus like $3 or $4 for shipping. Definately worth the extra money if you want the performance.

Yes your mobo supports 2x1gb on dual channel...

plus with 1GB becoming the standard its nice to have 2GB, just get some good stuff and you can probably transfer it over to your next rig also

Nope, that board doesn't support 2x1GB in dual-channel. I attempted this with some nice Patriot RAM and wondered why my PC wouldn't boot. I looked closer at my mobo's manual and found this:

"Support single-sided or double-sided 2.5v DDR-333/400 DIMMs with dual channel architecture in 128/256/512Mb technologies"

So I run 1 GB in slot 1 and 1 GB in slot 3.
