Can I plug my DSL modem directly into the wall or does it need to go through a DSL filter?

Can I plug it directly into a phone jack rather than using one of those combo DSL/phone filters?

A line filter filters out the DSL signal, so you want to put them between your phones and the wall jack, not between the modem and the wall jack.

That's what I thought too. I originally had my modem plugged directly into the wall jack. I would get disconnected every 5 minutes and get tons of CRC, FEC, and HEC errors. I plugged in a DSL filter that had a jack for phone and DSL. It cleared it right up. I've been connected for the past 4 hours now.

Edit: Just to make it more obvious, I plugged it into the DSL jack of the filter.
