Well, can I? I really don't have a reason as to why I was speeding. I hadn't really slept in over 30 hours...

Also, anyone know if it's normally possible to talk to the DA about a plea bargain (in California)?

best case scenario : they accept it

Just say you hadn't slept in 30 hours and were trying to make it home as fast as you could. Yeah, they'll get pissed at you, but they're gonna get pissed at you either way and you already have the ticket. At least if you play it right you might get away with a warning and a lowered fine.

Its against the law to drive while extremely tired! He will have another violation! Many accidents involve a tired driver and they wont accept it as an excuse.

Pay your ticket and accept the responsibility for your actions.

The cop gets paid overtime to attend the court so its better to take the fine and take the driving course for no points.

Please search the forum for other speeding ticket threads, I've posted many lengthy replies about how to beat a ticket using trial by affidavit, which requires you to write a few nicely worded letters, and greatly increases your chances of getting your ticket dismissed.

Bingo. If he goes this route, he'll possibly be faced with other charges. I'm not sure, but reckless driving might come into play, which is not something you want to mess with.
