I'm looking to try linux out of curiosity and was wondering it i can play some of the newer, more popular games like WoW, BF2, BF2142, CoH, etc.

yes, there was a big uproar a while back when Blizzard started kicking off anybody using linux to play WoW, but they have since let them back in.

WoW is the only one of those games that currently works under linux I think, but am not sure.

Just google how to install WoW in whatever linux distro you are using, and a guide on how to install it under wine will be waiting there for you.

Yes, WoW will run under both Cedega and Wine.

Supposedly BF2 works under Cedega, but you'll have to pay for that.

My brother runs WoW under linux and from looking at it, it seems to be running perfectly. He says it seems more responsive than running it in Windows.

mmm, When i ran cedega + 2.8ghz p4 and 6600gt , i saw about a 10-20% performance loss. On any modern system, i doubt the performace loss would even be noticiable.

WoW works with Wine in Ubuntu Edgy. I've verified that myself. Make sure you download the update patches manually then run them from wine.

There's a few config options you need to change before it will work. Make sure rendering is OpenGL and there's some sound related tidbits.

An entire wiki page exists on the Wine website regarding WoW and Ubuntu.

I said that I think WoW was the only one of those games that currently runs under linux, I did not say that it was. I was not wrong, and you are an arrogant jackass.

And like DasFox said, how about you read the entire thread before you post, instead of just what you want to read so you can spout of what you think you know. Sound like a good idea, hm?
