Can I play my game without updating the firmware (Switch)

I'm trying to play Mario Odyssey and the game won't let me play without updating the system. Is there a workaround?
 
If the game requires a certain firmware version, there is no workaround that I am aware of. If the game is simply detecting a new version, you can bypass the update.
