I'm at a website with song downloads in "AM quality" .ram files. Windows 2000 asked me what application to use for the files and I picked out my Winamp 2.81. I get no sound. Do I need a different app for it? TIA.
Oh, no, I have to install Real Audio to hear these? Ugh! Is there a least objectionable version? I think I may have a few old versions (installs) lieing about on my HD's.

As far as I know it will only work with Windows Media Player Classic, but that's still not too bad.. much better than installing Real Audio/Player.
Well, I did the install and it seemed pretty straightforward. Does it mean that I don't have the latest Windows Media Player installed anymore? I am able to play .ram files now.
Edit: It looks like I still have WMP 9.x installed, so I guess the WM Classic just kicks in for the .ram stuff.
