I have a Prophet II mx card in my system right now (replacing a Banshee) and am pretty dern happy. But, i would like to get better frames in Deus Ex, which is netoriously bad in direct x and OGL. Do ya'll know of a good card i could stick into my sys to maybe pair with the Geforce mx (like i could just unhook the monitor to play a Glide game, or use a switch box). Preferably a good, CHEAP card.

get a voodoo3 2000 pci. it will run Deus Ex great, is cheap, and works really well as a second card. i would get a switch box, personally.

I don't know if you will get the performance you want, but you could just put a VooDoo2 card in your system and it'll get used for glide stuff (that's what I've got in my machine to take care of glide only stuff). Of course, no matter how bad Deus is in Directx or OpenGL it could still be faster on the Gf2MX than w/ Glide on the VooDoo2.

Awsome, thanks. I know i am asking too much, but how would i set this up? With two vid cards, would i have to disable one in the Control panel when i am not using it? or just leave both on, and the game will select the correct card?

no, i don't play infantry. any particular reason why? to answer you question about getting the 2 cards to work, i think you have to turn one off in the control panel, but i know that if you are using a V2 that you jsut select the card you want to use in the games setup, so maybe you could do that. you would just have to try it.

I run a V2 SLI setup with my 64mb GeForce 2. Works just fine. Simply select the card of choice from within the game. If the game does not have multi card support, there's plenty of freeware utilities out there that can handle switching back and forth from one card to another.

I don't know why you would think a VooDoo2 could outperform a GeForce2 under any circumstances.

It has 1/10th the bandwidth and 1/8th the fillrate.

Even under some weird sort of emulation the GeForce would run faster.

*confused*

in a glide game like UT, or Deus Ex, 2 voodoo2's would be a lot faster than a geforce running in emulation, or dircet3d. considerably faster.

Do ya'll think a V 4500 PCI would work out good (as in no conflicts with the MX). That way i could get 32 bit color in Glide games as well as D3D ones.

the only problem with the v4 idea is that glide was not written to use 32 bit color (the vsa-100 is the first 3dfx chip to have 32 bit color support, afterall), and there are often problems getting games to run in 32 bit color in glide games.
