Take a look at my casual gamer system in my sig...

Is it possible to overclock based on what I have? Is 3.4 Ghz obtainable?

I'm a complete newb with overclocking and have never done it, and experts wanna lend a hand with a quick guide of what I should change for settings?

I know the multiplier is locked on my system.

Just thought Id try for fun

With that Phenom II you should not have to much of a problem getting up to 3.7-3.8ghz with a voltage bump. I'm not sure if that 945 is a black edition or not. If its the black edition then you can use the multiplyer controls to up the core clockspeed.

If its not the black edition then bump up the htt reference clock from 200mhz, to 240 and then do small bumps in clockspeed. If your cpu has a 15x multiplyer then 240mhz htt reference clock will make the core clock run at 3.6ghz and the northbridge (and thus the Level 3 cache) run at 2400mhz which will be a very nice bump in overall performance.

Edit: You may have to lower your memory divider to make your ram run at a lesser clockspeed since raising the reference clock higher than 200mhz will also overclock your ram.

You may want to search for overclocking guides if you don't understand anything I mentioned. There are many out there to help you learn the basics and get started.

Edit #2: Below are some ocing links...

From your sig you have the right hardware to go on a ocing spree. :)

PS: That Phenom1 x3 won't make it to 3.4ghz. 3ghz is pushing it as well.

It's not a black edition. Will my ram handle this?

Should I try 230fsb? Does increasing fsb damage anything like vid card?

I don't want to hurt anything but thought I'd try a moderate o/c for fun

Increasing the ref clock (it's not really a fsb) will increase CPU core freq., northbridge freq. (L3), HT freq., and RAM freq. Like forumulaV8 said, you might have to back off on the RAM multiplier to get your CPU up to 3.6GHz.

The CPU will probably require a bump in voltage to make 3.6 or higher. The NB may or may not.

What kind of temps should I be aiming for? I'm having trouble getting over 3.5 ghz. I think my ram is holding me back. The core is runnin at 1.440 at 3450 MHz with ram clock at 3.33 multiplier rather than 4.0... So fsb is at 230 x 15.

With this running torture tests with prime95 my max core temp on the cores was 50.6 according to cuid hardware monitor pro.

Does this sound about right? Are these temps safe for core temps?

I get blue screens of death with prime 95 when I go higher.

Well after some tweaking I've got it at 3495 MHz stable it seems.

I'm happy with that for my first oc that I wasn't planning. Cores under load in prime 95 top out around 51.

I'm sure somebody with better experience could get more easily
