Hi,

I have a DELL dimension 4100 desktop ( 3 Yrs old ). P3 1GHz with 512 RAM. Can I over
clock it to a higher speed?
DELL don't have manual for their motherboard, and don't know anyone every tried that?

Thanks a lot!

The cooling on most is not sufficient for overlocking. However, it IS possible.

in my 4600 there was no fan on the heat shink and only one case fan. There is a plastic covering that goes from case fan(output) to the heatsink and it sucks the air across the sink. THe intake vent though is right next to my Video card which i have overclocked so i have a feeling that it is just pulling warm air over the heatsink to the processor.

I OC'ed a Compaq POS once. Similar circumstances though - manual (downloaded in PDF) mentioned nothing of the sort but I spotted a few likely sets of jumpers and started tinkering. Figured out which settings were for FSB and which for multiplier. Ended up getting 440MHz out of the 350MHz K6-2. Not bad at the time - that's a 25% OC!

Back to your setup though - any jumpers on mobo? I suspect not but worth a look. These things are normelly done in the BIOS now but not in any Dell BIOS I've seen. Good luck!

Thanks. I tried but could not figure out the jumpers. So I will buy some parts and build a new P4.
I choose the following components, http://www.columbia.edu/~qx2101/pc/quote.htm
Do you guys have any suggesstion on that? I mostly concern the compatibility of the mother board, cup and ram. and not sure if the motherboard can fit in the case.

Thanks alot.
