Can I not use SP2 with a XP w/ SP2 Package?

I'm planning on buying the OS from newegg, and they offer only OEM version of Windows XP with Service Pack 1; the retail versions are only SP2. Since the SP2 Retail is only $6 more than OEM I was wondering if I would be able to choose to not install SP2 when installing this Windows, or if I should go with the OEM SP1 package?

When you install XP you have an option to upgrade during the install, providing you have an internet connection established. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to install SP2 if you are going with XP...it's free D/L from MS.

Elemennop, you might want to check Newegg again re XP OEM SP1 vs. SP2. FWIW the last OEM XP's that I bought from Newegg were SP2.

A retail version of Windows should cost about twice what an OEM does. If you see one that's only $6 more for retail, you're probably mistakenly looking at an Upgrade Retail one, which would require a qualifying older OS in order to install. The Full-Version Retail of WinXP is in the $280 area IIRC.

No, you will not have a choice, the SP's aren't added on components but simply update the default files installed when you use the disk. Not sure why you think you don't want SP2, you do, it contains many behind the scenes security fixes. There really is no reason not to run it.
