Can I network an XP and Win 98 computer?

I want to set up a wireless network to share our DSL connection between my XP system and our daughter's Win98 system (don't feel like spending $100 to upgrade right now). Will I have any problems?

Thanks,
Matt

I've heard they can be networked together. But I tried it once and and they didn't play nice together.

In otherwords, I'm curious and here's a bump for ya.

Enable netbeui on the Win98 box and then run the home network wizard on the xp box. It will make a floppy for your to bring over to your win98 box.

You might need to enable NetBEUI to access the 98 machine through Network Neighborhood, though.

Can access with netbios over tcpip (defaults), but the above would work too.

As for IIS, not sure, never tried that. Should work ok though, assuming you'd do the serving via XP machine. Easier, better to use a router to share the connection if it's not dialup.

Some things don't work well, such as Sharing printers is messy because of driver differences between the OSes. You can get some to work and others are difficult, others still are just not gonna work right.

File Sharing should be straight forward.
