Can I mix resolutions in a multi monitor setup? (full details inside)

Hi xt et al.

Many thanks for all your help when I was getting my 2005FPWs.

I'm now running 4 of them, 2 off an XTASY X300 SE and 2 off a Radeon 9250.

The 2005FPWs are running at 1680x1050. The 9250 has 2 D-SUB outputs and the X300 has one D-SUB and one DVI output. Right now all 4 monitors are working just fine, with my desktop spread across all 4 using WIN XP's native multi-monitor support.

I need to know if I can buy a Dell 2408WFP running at 1920x1200 and simply plug it in to one of the outputs (either card, DVI or D-SUB) and have it display correctly? Would it be a situation where I would have to change the settings on the card which the 2408 is plugged into, thus changing the look of one of the 2005FPWs?

I tried a quick title search to find my answer but couldn't find anything specific. Any comments are appreciated.

Look at Windows Display Properties!

Don't you see that you can set the resolution of each monitor independently?

If the card will run it and the monitor supports it, you're good to go.

Sure, that's how I set the resolutions for my multi-monitor setup. However, as you probably know, when you're dealing with computers, strange things can happen.

My question was aimed at guys who have a lot of experience with this sort of thing, just in case someone knows that there are specific issues with these cards, or maybe with XP. Can one card drive one monitor at xx resolution and another monitor at yy resolution? Seems like a fairly reasonable question to me!

I ran 1280x1024 <> 1680x1050 <> 1280x1024 with no issues in XP using built in stuff.
The only 'problem' with mixed resolutions is that the mouse doesn't go smoothly from one screen to another (it'll either halt at the top or bottom depending on how they are arranged) but that applies to any number of mixed monitors (be it 2 or 20).
There should be no problems whatsoever with using whatever res you want on each monitor.

Thanks Lonyo, that's what I was hoping to hear. I can get a ridiculously good deal on a NIB 2408. Looks like I'll be picking it up.
