Hi,

I just bought a P4 2.53GHz chip.
Now considering which mobo to buy :-
(1) Asus P4B533 -or-
(2) Asus P4S8X

Now one of the factor that influence my consideration is the DDR Ram
Ok, I think I'll just use PC2100, since I already have one 128MB DIMM.

However, I wonder if I can simply mix a 128MB + 256MB + 512MB, and each of them from different manufacturer ?
Can this be done on both P4B533 and P4S8X mobo ?
Will there be any "side-effect" by mixing DDR Ram in that way ?

(I recalled from my previous SDRam usage, I'm pretty sure I mixed 64MB + 128MB + 256MB, and it works perfectly)
(But I'm not sure about the new DDR Ram though, and not sure about them working on the above-mentioned mobo or not).

Can any expert out there pls kindly share their experiences and ideas ?
Thanks :)

Yes. On the nForce boards though you can get maximum performance by filling the first two RAM sockets with some other requirements, but they will still work if you don't do that. You dont' have an nForce board though, so you don't have to worry about that.

i have a soyo dragon+. i originally had 256mb crucial. i bought 256mn pny and added that. i used normal settings, no o/c and cas 2.5. i had problems in warcraft 3 where random things would be corrupt; unzipping large zip files would result in corrput extracted files (orig zip was still good though); and xp would reboot randomly at the welcome screen. although, i didnt really notice problems in everyday usage.

either stick worked great and there was no corruption when they were used alone. i have since gotten 256mb additional crucial and that works with no problems.

i dont mean to scare you with my experience, but that was just my experience

Thanks for sharing the info :)
I learnt that certain brand like Mushkin and Corsair are really "picky" when using with other brand
well, I think I'm stuck with PNY (samsung chip) then .... :(
