I just bought an EVGA GTX465 card for the CUDA capabilities, but I haven't opened it yet. Once I open it, I'm stuck with it, so I'm trying to make a decision before I do. I currently have a HIS Radeon 4850 which is pretty good, and it lets me send anything that goes to the video overlay renderer to the second monitor using the "theater mode". I use this a lot because that way I can preview what I'm editing in Edius in my TV set, which serves as my second monitor using a DVI to HDMI cable.
Unfortunately, it seems that Nvidia stopped providing their version of the theater mode, called "Full screen video mirroring", so if I install the Nvidia card I wouldn't be able to preview the Edius timeline on my TV set unless I spend $500 in a card Grass Valley sells for that purpose.
On the other hand, I'm interested in all the CUDA capabilities when applied to Adobe CS5, and while I don't use Premiere as my main editor, it would be great to be able to use it for some tasks that are CUDA accelerated, and it seems it also makes After Effects and Photoshop really fast.
So if it was possible, I would like to install the Nvidia as my main card, but then move the ATI to another slot only to be able to have the theater mode capability for when I edit in Edius.
Would this be possible, and if so, having a stable system, or would it lead to major chaos and BSODs?
