I just got a new 80gig 8mb cache(ata 133) Maxtor drive for my master, I want to put a slave on it...a 15.5gig (ata 66) Maxtor drive. Can I link them just fine with no settings to adjust rather than master/slave? I wasn't sure if speeds and/or cache would cause problems. They will both be formatted with NTFS in Win2k.

Shouldnt cause a problem set one to master, one to slave or both to cable select and have the Master at the end

Great, thanks. Just didn't have anything to do with my 15.5 now and figured I would use it for file storage. I just just curious if the differences in speed might cause strange errors, etc.

as long as you're using the hi speed cables and your mb/controller can take the 133, then no problem. as was mentioned, just select the drive setting for master and slave, and you should be all set.

on a side note, doing something very similiar was how I found I had a poor powersupply. by adding that one drive, it pulled enough from the over all system that i started getting crashes. After reloading my OS, formating and reloading, then finally changing ps's, I figured it out. just something to watch for. :D

I have ATA 133 rounded cables that I purcahsed from SVC. They support 66, 100, 133. My motherboard is the Abit NF7-S and yes it does support ata 133 and SATA :) I just added a new quality PSU (430 Truepower from Antec). Sound like I am all set??
