Can i link an external hard drive to my hd time warner box

rather than opt for the monthly lease of the dvr time warner box, is it possible to buy an external hard drive and connect it via usb or similar and record straight o that from the HD box?

Don't know about TW but I can (and did) with Dish.

If it's a not a box with DVR capability the answer is no. DVR capability involves more than adding a hard-drive to a cable box. If you have a DVR box there are some that allow you to add an external hard-drive via USB to expand the amount of recording space.
