can I keep the same case?

So lets say I have an old packard bell 200mhz computer. I think it is time to upgrade. I know that usually prebuilt computers aren't upgradable, but what if I change EVERYTHING inside, but decide to keep the PB tower case. will hte new stuff be able to fit inside teh tower case? Will I need to buy a new case?

You could possibly make the old case work ....... but, you will want to upgrade your power supply (psu) to 300w (or more) and with the newer faster processors available now, additional case cooling is also required.

The newer model cases and psu's are much better designed for cooling, and are upgraded to provide additional electrical connections and motherboard / heatsink mounting studs for Athlon & P4 cpu's.

It's usually more economical to purchase the psu, when it is included with a pc case ....... so you will probably be much better off ($$$, power and cooling wise) ........ to just go ahead and upgrade to a newer, better case/w psu to enclose your new system .......!

Last, but not least, Packard Bell cases are usually just ..... butt ugly ...... IMO! (no offense meant - if you like them)?

With something like a PB200, it seems unlikely for several reasons.

1. Formfactor and i/o panel- modern boards are atx formfactor, they won't fit in cases that aren't. Your PB may have an entirely proprietary formfactor, in which event you're completely out of luck. Go to www.formfactors.org if you really want to get into it.

2. Power supply- older machines used AT type psu's, incompatible with atx motherboards. Even if it's atx, it likely won't have sufficient power output to support a modern system.

3. Cooling/ventilation- again, modern systems put out a lot more heat, so they need cases that allow more airflow....

It kinda depends on what you want to build- entirely decent case/psu combos can be had for $50+shipping, micro-atx models for a little less..

😱 I totally agree, the answer is a solid NO. Your best bet is to sell your PC on 2nd hand and buy a beefier 2nd hand PC. This may not cost you much at all and will save you all manner of headaches.
