Can I keep anything?

This is my current rig. I use it for playing music and running SolidWorks. Can I please get your thought on it? My budget is about $400.

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2000+ @ 1.67GHz
MB: Gigabyte K7 Triton 400, GA-7VAX
RAM: Kingston DDR333 (PC 2700) 512MB, KVR333X64C25/512
DDR333 (PC 2700) 1GB, KVR333/1GR
GPU: Gigabyte Maya Radeon 9000 Pro, 128MB, GV-R9000 Pro II
CD: Lite-On CD-RW drive – IDE series, LTR-52246S
HDD: Maxtor 34098H4, 5400 RPM, 40GB
PSU: Antec SL300S, 300W ATX
OS: Windows XP Home Edition SP3

Nothing else can be recycled into new components. Even the OS isn't a good idea to keep since it no longer gets security updates.

My case is an ATX Mid Tower (rather old). I don't know who made it, but it is cream with blue trim and has "BARE BONES" printed on the front.

haha yeesh yeah thats a dinosaur, wouldn't recommend reusing any of it.

The good new is, if its taken you this long to upgrade, $400 should do you fine, because just about ANYTHING will be a huge upgrade.

It was originally built to play a game called "No One Lives Forever 2", because my Intel P90 wasn't strong enough.

The big trouble is that $400 isn't going to get you much, especially since a modern windows license (if that is your OS of choice) costs almost 1/4 of that.

In the $400 price range, the most efficient choice are probably pre-builts.

Here's a dell pre-built with a haswell i3, 4GB DDR3, and a 1 TB HDD for $400.

Pre-build is fine in this budget, but I would avoid Small Form Factor and especially All-in-One PCs.

Luckily even the Intel IGP will completely outclass that old Radeon 9000 in every conceivable way!
