Can I Install Win7 via Thumb Drive?

I have a HP Mini Netbook and want to put Windows 7 on it. Of course, the netbook has no cd-rom. I'll need to transfer the .iso image to a thumb drive. Will this work for booting/installing purposes?

Microsoft has a tool specifically for this. You'll need the windows 7 media in iso format and this program :

http://store.microsoft.com/help/iso-tool

There is a link there to download the tool. When you open it, you just have to point to the iso and have a big enough flash drive. Works very snappy. I've installed windows 7 pro several times like this and it was very easy.

neat - thanks

I've always done it the manual way of writing to MBR etc - this seems to be much easier.

All of these suggestions will work . . . but you are going to have to go to a computer with a DVD drive in order to cheat the image and place it on the thumb drive. Then you will have to go into the boot order of your netbook and change it so that the USB drive is the first option. The thumb drive has to be inserted before you go into the BIOS to make the change or it won't show it as an option.
