Can I install the stock Intel CPU cooler with an H80 backplate in place?

Hi all, I'm going to send in my H80 for RMA due to unacceptable pump noise. First of all, is Corsair going to make me return the backplate and if they don't, can I install the stock CPU heatsink while the H80 is being replaced? Thanks in advance.

I would usually return everything if I did a RMA, don't want any issues with them calling me and say that the warranty can't be processed with this part missing etc. I don't think it is possible to install with the Corsair H80 backplate on as the stock heatsink uses pushpins which will latch on to the thickness of the motherboard. Anything more than that or something that obstructs the pins from expanding and it won't lock in place.

Darn, taking out a backplate is always a pain. Any recommendations for getting it off the motherboard cleanly?

1: Never taking off the adhesive paper so that there's nothing sticky to deal with. :D

2: Blow dryer on low and a credit card or plastic spoon from wendys or something.

I don't think you can get it out cleanly. Just yank it out, scrape the residual adhesive and use mild solvents to do the rest. I don't usually favor peeling off the adhesive paper. I would use masking tape to hold the back plate in place long enough for me to get a few screws in.

The H80 backplate doesn't have adhesive. And you should've kept the plastic protector on. You have to remove the motherboard if your case doesn't have a CPU bracket hole in the motherboard tray.
