Can I install Snow Leopard off of disc image

So i bought Snow Leopard and now need to install. I used Alcohol on my Windows machine to create a disc image and copied it onto the macbook's desktop. Can I now used that image to install the new OS, or will I run into problems?

Can I do an upgrade install this way?

Can I do a clean install this way?

Thanks

Why not do a remote install? You can drop the disk into your desktop and connect to it over your network.

If you want to do it locally, you will need to do the following

Turn the ISO you created into a .DMG
Partition your Air's hard drive so that you have a 10GB (15 if you can do it) partition
Restore the .DMG to this new partition
Shut down your Air and hold ALT immediately after rebooting it
Select the new partition and boot from it
Proceed from there

You will be able to either upgrade or clean install this way

You can just partition your MBA's hard drive to do it.

1. Shrink your current partition by 10 GB and make a new GUID partition in the free space in disk utility.
2. "Restore" the new partition by selecting it as the destination and your SL .dmg as the source (the new partition should then be named SL Install dvd or the like)
3. Reboot and boot from the new partition (install dvd), and install onto your normal partition
4. Once you boot into SL, you can remove the install dvd partition and re-expand your SL partition.

I was reading your post, saw the "why not do a remote install?" line, saw some text formatted as instructions, then skipped the rest of it.

At least we agree though 🙂

I looked up. Are there instructions on my ceiling? I just see wooden beams. Does Apple support wooden beams, or only drywall?

A USB flash drive will work nicely as well. You need at least an 8gb one though.

He isn't wrong with that, doing it on the hard drive will be faster though.
