1.5GB ram
ATI radeon X300

I got vmware working with a copy of tiger (but really really slow)

Any comments?

I've been there and am still not sure.
I've seen some on the thinkpad forums that have done it on a T43, but I'm not sure of their specs.
If it can be done and run decent on 1.5GB ram
I goto insanely mac and reference Kaido's great thread here.

if I can find a cheap spare drive. I may give this a go.
my mom keeps asking me about macs. this may reduce my tech support time with her :)

Ah..

Try it in a vmware. There's guides on the InsanelyMac forums for that if a native install is too much right now.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH NONONO

I want to look a little more a OSX and if I think my mom can use it she'll get a new mac mini or imac or something from apple.

I'm not that much of a glutton for punishment!

She runs XP pro right now

:)

I love my parents (and my sanity) so I would never put them on any hacked system.

They use a G4 at home and I never have to worry about what sites my dad goes to & what they would install if it were a PC.

oh?

for surfing the web, doing emails... a mac isn't going to be a huge jump from a pc. set up a few icons on the dock, just like you'd do on a pc. don't worry about spyware, don't worry about viruses.

probably a good idea to take her by the apple store, let her poke around on a mac, see it first hand.
