Can I improve on this?

We bought an old Dell Latitude (505) It has an Intel Centrino 1.4, 512 MB Ram, 20 GB HD. It is terribly slow. How much can I logically upgrade this thing to improve its performance. I've never been into a laptop before so I'd really appreciate any advice I can get. It currently is on XP.

Thanks

Centrino is not a processor. Which Pentium M is it? Banias, Dothan?

I'd say up the RAM and the hard drive. Don't bother spending too much money though, as it looks like a really old machine.

According to that chart the Dotham 1.7 uses the same socket. Would that help any? Is it feasible?

It uses the same socket, but you'd still be stuck with the 400MHz FSB. The speed improvement with going to a Dothan would be marginal and not really worth the cost (imo).
