Can i hook my FPS2000 subwoofer up to my receiver?

I just got the Denon 3802, and tomorrow, i'm getting Paradigm Monitor 7 speakers. However, i won't be buying the subwoofer (or the rest of the system) for another couple of months. Now, these speakers are 47hz and up, and my FPS2000 subwoofer can go as low as 30hz. So i was thinking of hooking the sub up to my receiver for the time being - crappy sub is better than no sub if you ask me. So anyway, is there a way i can do this? There has to be. The sub has analog and digital inputs. Analog left/right 1/8" inputs and a digital DIN input (looks like Svideo jack). Well i'm guessing i can't use the analog? So how do i use the digital?

In this case it might be better to have no sub hehe :) Anyways try what was listed above.

Before you try a connector, check the impedences of the sub. Don't know the specs on that one. If it matches the receiver, you are good to go.

Oops. I just re-read your post, and now I have to re-write my reply.

I don't know the specs of your FPS2000 subwoofer, but if it is self-powered (that is, it plugs into the wall and has stereo analog and digital inputs), you can run a cable from the tape output jacks on your receiver to the sub. Hopefully, it also has its own volume control to balance the subs against the main speakers.

Let me know if this works, or what other connections are available, and I'll comment further if I can help. :)

I'd like to point out that even though the creative sub says it can do 30hz, it likely doesn't do it very loud, and those Paradigm's you were looking at would probably have more bass at any frequency than the creative one.

Yeah, it's self-powered. And it has it's own volume knob. Ok, how EXACTLY do i hook it up?

If the speakers sound better by themselves, that's ok. At least i tried, right?

You won't be able to hook it up via the Digital DIN since that's Creative's own output method. My friend and I tried to hook it up to his Santa Cruz and it didn't work.

I'm not an audio guru so I don't know how to hook it up via analog. I'd plug it into anything until it works correctly ;)

You shouldn't need a pair of 1/8 connectors on one end...just one connector. One of the connectors is for the front speakers (including sub) and the other is for the rear speakers. You'll just need an RCA connector on one end and an 1/8 connector on the other.

I think....

My cable has RCA type connectors on one end and it only has one headphone size connector on the other end.

Not that there isn't one, but I haven't seen a converter cable with dual headphone 1/8th size connectors.

With monitor 7s, youd be absolutely off your rocker to want to hook up the FPS2000 "sub". For one thing, correct me if I'm wrong, doesnt the monitor 7 have dual 6.5s?

Id be surprised if the Creative "sub" was even 6 inches across. Either way, I can practically guarantee you the monitor 7s will have more bass. The creatives may say 30hz, but my z560 8 inch sub can barely output that in actuality.

Anything under 8 inches I wouldnt even consider a sub, especially those that come with computer speakers. Sure its just terminology, but I dont think youre going to get anything useful from the sub.

If its money thats the issue, why not pick up a set of mini-monitors, and grab one of those SA-WM40 12 inch sony subs? (only $150 or so) ive had nearly the same setup, and after a little tweaking, probably sounded a lot better than those monitor 7s alone. When you get lots more cash, just put the mini monitors in the rear, and buy those monitor 7s for mains. :D

Although I get the feeling that no matter what anyone says, youre going to try anyways.

No, i'm just waiting for my HT room. When it's finished, i'm grabbing 3 CC370s, 2 ADP-370s (or possibly Mini Mons) and a sub (not sure yet).

You're going to hook up a Denon 3802 with Paradigm Monitor 7's
with a PC subwoofer?

Thats like buying a Geforce 4 and an Athlon XP and still
using an old 12" 256 color Monitor.

Just wait till you get a decent sub.

Oh guys nevermind. I just got them. They put out so much bass, that i had to turn it down in Windows. To hell with the subwoofer. Oh BTW, anyone wanna buy some FPS2000? :D

Huh? Main - Monitor 7, surrounds - ADP-370 or Mini Mons, front center - CC-370, rear centers (two) CC-370.
