I have decided to pursue my passion. Sports. As such, for the last several months I've been planning, organizing, designing and basically building what I hope to be a successful adult sports league organization in the Tampa Bay area. I have a web developer that is a very nice guy and gives a very good price. He also comes highly recommended by a good friend of mine. He is also the guy who designed my logo and business cards/advertisement flyers. That said, he's a bit on the slow side when it comes to updating the website. I'm learning my way around it, but there are quite a few major things that are giving me hiccups. For what its worth, it is based off of Joomla, which I have absolutely no experience with and am learning as I go.

That said, let me state a few of the things I'm unhappy with and am looking to have changed and then you guys can chime in with things you think could be fixed. But please, be gentle. I know its not perfect. Problem is, it has to do for now and I can make it better over the coming weeks/months.

1. The tabs on the top aren't exactly organized in the fashion I want. I want to have the registration tab on the main menu and have selecting of leagues look cleaner.

2. The twitter widget on the side of the main page looks ghetto. I'm working on getting something MUCH nicer.

3. On the contact page it is very plain and doesn't exactly display all the information I want. Working on that one. On a related note, I do not have a physical office. Clearly I don't want to list my home address as our business address. I have been contemplating getting a PO Box or going all out and getting one of those UPS store physical addresses. Thoughts on that subject?

4. The forums are not the right color scheme.

5. The images on the main page are, essentially, clip art. Unfortunately I do not have any images of my own, yet. Once I do, those will certainly change.

6. The soccer/softball sections are WAY to plain. I want to put some more detailed information in there with the ability to click a 'subscribe' button to be alerted when more leagues become available. (I am hopefully going to be offering both soccer/softball within the next two months).

There are a lot of other little things that I want to fix. But my main concern right now is professionalism. If you were in the market for joining an adult league, went to my site and had a glance around. Would you be willing to give me your money, or would you look at the site and think 'untrustworthy'. If the latter, why?

Oh and if anyone wants to register and post some stuff on the forums, feel free! It'd be nice if the place didn't seem like such a ghost town. It might make people more trusting of the site in general.

Thanks in advance ATOT, I love you guys!!!

It would have been more fun if we had to go around to a million websites trying to find yours.

I'd suggest getting some good text on those pictures that the little flash widget skips between (football/goalie save). It looks kinda pointless with no text on them. And I know you just said that they were filler... but right now nothing happens when I click on them (ie, they should take you at least to the Football/Soccer sections) so it feels really amateurish. Also some simple text in bold white lettering or something to say "Flag Football signups underway" or anything would be great.

For reference, check out how the scrolling flash headlines work at http://www.foxsoccer.com/

Something like that. I mean, now that I think about it, daggum every sports website (even SI and ESPN) all have this. The pictures are naked without text.

Other than that, it's really not half-bad. It responds well and isn't nausea-inducing... that's all I ask from any website.

Good advice. I will definitely look into that. Did you by chance check out the registration page? Does that look to ghetto? Would you pay money on that page?

The thing that worries me is I've had about 30 legit view on my page in the last week, probably at least half went to the registration page, but no registrations yet.

That's not Flash, it's Javascript.

:awe:

So. Yeah, on the actual registration page, a few Visa/MC/Discover/Paypal icons might make it look a bit more legitimate. Not sure if ™ or anything will apply, might want to check that out if you're planning on using this site for income. Also, a small text in red or blue might look good either on or near the Register button that indicate "Credit card charges handled by PayPal" just so they know where the link will take them.

And another thing that just struck me since I have several other blog pages open:

Your text is the basic WordPress font used in tons of blogs. Which I'll admit I didn't notice until just now, but then I see on the Registration page it timestamps the posting date and poster of the page, it may seem like a cheaply converted blog repurposed to run a site.

Change the font into something more commercial looking, and try to hide the time-stamp?

Thanks Auggie. I have already changed the time stamps etc... I agree, those looked tacky. I'll have to work on the paypal credit card stuff.
