The World Cup for cricket starts next month and I soo want to get a Dish Network in my apartment.
The problem is, my apt. complex does NOT allow satellite dishes to be installed on the outside of the apartment.
Also, I live in upstate NY, so temp has been below freezing point, so,I can't leave my windows open.

is there anyway I can install a receiver in my apt.? will they work thru my glass window?
any clever moves I can come up with ?

I sooo want to watch these matches and they come only once every 4 years!

Also,All 54 World Cup games will be available on DISH Network channels 457/470 and 458/471. So would I need two dishes or just one dish to receive the signal?

i remember about 2 yrs ago, we had to buy 2 dishes, one for the american programming and another one for asian programming bcoz they both had to be pointed to different satellites.

Yes, but satellite is line of site. If you're in the North, the dish will have to be positioned lower on the horizon and pointed toward the South... So you'll only be able to do this if you have a direct line of site on the South side of your apartment.

IIRC, there's some fcc regulation that says dishes smaller than 18" can't be regulated by ccr's or something.

forget the FCC ruling, my complex just won't let me install a dish on the oustide.
so, doing something inside the apt. is the only way out...

Doesn't matter. If you have 'exclusive use' of a patio or balcony, you may mount the dish there and then you won't have to worry about the loss of signal through the window. Just simply install the dish and should they come to you about it, print that page out and show them. There's *nothing* they can do.

OK.
I just got a compass from my nautica jacket and went all around my living room to see if I cud see the 'south' from on of my many windows.
i could!
do i have a line of sight...well, I don't have another building for about 150 feet and then I see another building which is of the same height as mine.

will this fly?

can i goto BB or CC and get a dish satellite and just try and see if i'm getting anything?

will i have to activate an account thru dish or can i get a 15-day trial period or something?

also, the dish CSR would not tell me the longitude and latitude for this south dish.

Yeah you don't need an access card to do the setup of the dish. The signal meter on the receiver will work without the card.

So, I need to first go and buy a dishNetwork satellite.
come home, hook it up to the satellite which displays the World Cup Cricket programming.
without activation, will I see some picture on my TV to tell me that I am getting some signal.
ofcourse, all this is assuming that I will get *some* signal through my glass window

are there any specific satellite dish forums I can goto to get some more info.

There has to be more people among the 300 million population in this country who got dish tv working thru inside the apt.

i did it. not all that hard. then we couldn't figure how to mount the dish so we just appropriated one of the ones mounted on the apartment building's roof.

Sounds like bs, but I dunno.

You don't have a patio or anything? If you did, you could just cement a pipe in a bucket and mount it that way...then you could move it at will.

Like I said....depending on where you're located "north to south" in the US, you're going need to point your dish in a different angle. I live in TN.....here the dishes point up in the sky.... In Maine, most of the dishes look like they're pointing horizontal....to me, it looks like they're pointing at the ground.

So check other peoples' dishes and she if you think you can shoot a line out your window for this.

Also, keep in mind that dishes are very fragile once they're set. One slight bump and you'll have to reposition it. (I used to get calls all the time from people who had cattle and had their dish in a field... The cattle would bump the dish on a regular basis.) So it may take some work getting it mounted just right so it doesn't move. You'll need a good signal meter to do this.
