you cannot be charged for SELF defense. the drunk was the one who started everything so therefore he is going to get in trouble.

So you are writing this after the cops showed up, but before they talk to you/sort everythig out?

They just took him and weren't listening to the nonsense he was saying. But I don't know what he could've said once he got to the police station. Haven't heard anything yet though.

I would hope that they'd know to ignore the ramblings of a drunk person. And they probably could have put him in jail, and when he'd wake up the next day, he wouldn't know why he was there. They could just tell him anything then, just to screw with his head. "You were driving drunk and killed 2 people in a hit and run. You're facing 2 counts of vehicular homicide and a charge of driving under the influence," or something like that. Once he stops sobbing uncontrollably at the thought of spending life in jail for being an irresponsible ass, then let him know what really happened. With a warning too, the next time, he might get someone else seriously hurt.

Touched her shoulder with one hand, two hands?

Doesn't matter. He deserved a hardcore asskicking long before he laid hands.
