decent = reliable.
Prizms are Corollas with a different skin.
prizm's are built in GM factories in the US and most corolla's are built in toyota's ontario plant. has similar parts and looks but i wouldn't say prizm's ARE corolla's.
but yes you can get a decent car under $10k. plenty of last gen accord/camry to choose from. $10k should get you a fairly unabused 95-99 maxima as well... but you take the risk of buying an older car.
Similar parts? Same engine/drivetrain..
2 cars having the same engine/drivetrain can be completely different cars. they are very similar cars, but as long as one is built by toyota and one is built by GM using toyota parts, i wouldn't consider them to be the same car.
but for OP's purpose, he can do a lot better than a prizm with $10k.
