i think it all depends on your telephone company and city, how they assign numbers to people and such. I think cell phone companies might give you a number that you want if you demand it enough. Just tell them that you've always had this number and such. As long as its not taken

Call that number so you can find out if it's already assigned to someone.
If someone answers, say, "Did you know your number is xxx-EAT-SH!T?" and hang up.
Think about how many times you'd get that same phone call if it was your number, then abandon your plan.

You can get the last four numbers set to anything you want, the first 6 are fixed based on location (fixed somewhat anyway, in a large city you may have a choice of prefixes).

When my dad was still teaching, one of his co-workers had 'BEER' as his last four digits. My dad called up directory assistance to get his number and they told him to dial XXX-BEER
