Can I get a Cell Phone with only a one year contract?

Verizon does have 1 year contracts...Most likely they just want to lock you in for a longer time.

you don't need
a contract
at all.

with verzion, if you are out of contract they will renew you for 1 year, though the price of the phone is going to be a litle more expensive (that is if you are upgrading phone... assuming you are out of contract), and possibly a $35 activation fee with 1 yr contract........ their CSR's are shmucks for the most part, go to the store or try to call 611 someone will get it done for you.

You can get a phone without a contract in the US as well. You just have to pay full retail price for the phone.
