I just noticed that I only hear music out of my right and left speakers and my sub, not out of the center or rears. Is there any way I can get total surround sound while listening to music? That would be cool.

I use WinAmp btw.

I regret answering the question with more questions:

Dolby Digital? DTS? Dolby Pro Logic II?

What's your soundcard? Speaker/Amp setup?

Does WinAmp support multi-channel with a plug-in?

There should be an option in your sound utility program that should allow you to listen to a stereo signal on all your speakers.

The name varies by what you're using, but it's something like Stereo Expander, 5 channel stereo, party mode, virtual 5.1, or some acronym.

Go into your utility program and see if there's some check box that looks something like I mentioned.

I use an Audigy2 ZS soundcard, Logitech Z-530 speakers

I have no idea for the third question.

It will be called "CMSS" on your audigy2.

(Creative Multi Speaker Surround)

That sound card does everything you need.

The soundcard's driver settings can tweak the setup however you'd like.

Try this:
Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio -> Volume -> Advanced -> Speakers -> 5.1 surround sound speakers

Wow guys I'm retarded. I went to look for what Yoyoyo mentioned and found out that I was on 2.1 speakers the whole time. How come I didn't notice this before?

Whatever. Thanks for the help guys.

Actually I found the CMSS option in my EAX Console settings. I set it to Stereo Surround (plays stereo playback on each of my speaker pairs) and it sounds nice.

Ok cool.

I haven't owned a creative card since a SB Live, so I wasn't sure if they had a lot of options for this. I'm glad you found something that's working well.

So it plays stereo on the back two and a mix of left and right on the center?

Music is in 2.1 format.

You need to manually set a setting in your sound card settings to make it stereo surrond.

Just dont use CMSS if you have an audigy card.

It sucks.

Your better off with 2.1 then.

Actually I played with the CMSS options...

CMSS is pretty normal.
CMSS2 is the same as the first but it's a lot louder.
Stereo Surround is actually kinda muffly, come to think of it.

I dunno, I'll find one I like eventually.

Oh good, you have stereo surrond.

Use that, its superior to CMSS.

Just make sure to lower your bass if its to loud.

It doubles your bass output because your outputing 2(or 3)extra channals.

I suggest lowering the bass to 35%/40%.

Yeah I have it set on stereo surround right now, I originally had my bass at like 80 and my treble at 60 (I love bass, sorry :p) but now I lowered it to 60/50 and it sounds better.

To answer the original question quickly:
In Winamp, go to Options -> Preferences (Ctrl + P)

Plugins -> Output

Select DirectSound Output, and click Configure. Check Allow Hardware Acceleration. Apply/OK, and start playing a file. You should now have sound from all speakers, right from Winamp.
