Can I game while capturing DV video?

I don't remember where, but I do remember reading words to the effect of "Don't do anything else video-related (gaming, watch movies, etc) while capturing or encoding video...it'll get messed up."

Is this true? If it's hardware-related, I'm pretty sure I've got it covered (see rig in sig). I have about 4 hours of video I need to recapture from my DV cam...and don't want to sit here doing nothing.
