Can I expect any noticeable performance boost by OC'ing?

Finally finishing setting up my new PC:

- Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
- AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester
- Zalman 7700 Cu (using ArticSilver 5)
- 1GB Dual Channel Kit Kingston HyperX PC3200 (2-3-2-6)
- Gigabyte 6600GT PCI-E 128MB
- Seagate 7200.7 120GB Barracuda w/ NCQ
- Antec TruePower 550W PSU

I wanted to keep open the option of overclocking, since I was buying quality components, hence the 7700 HSF instead of the stock AMD cooler.

However, I'm curious as to what kind of real-world difference I'd notice if I do push these components. I've heard that it's not too hard to get the Winchester 3200+ to 2.5GHz or more using the 7700, but I'm not sure how far I'd be able to push the memory or gfx card.

If anyone has any experience with components similar to these, I'd appreciate your input into your experiences and what, if any, benefits you saw in oc'ing. Thanks.

PS - can we please not get into why i only have one gfx card for this setup? i have my reasons, and besides, that would be the topic of another thread ;)

It depends on how much of an overclock you get as to whether you'd notice it anywhere but a benchmark.

I would question your logic if you had purchased 2 6600GT's and SLI'd them. One makes perfect sense to me at this time. :D
