I bought one of the 16x HP cd-rw drives on sale this week. It stated to have problems after a few days. The thing is I already sent in the UPC for the rebate. Would Staples have a problem exhanging this without a UPC on the box?

I don't think they'd be able to accept the return w/o the UPC... because there wouldn't be any proof that it was bought at staples at that point.

The UPC serves as an identifier for the store's database.

You should try it w/ the manufacterer, HP in this case and have them replace the drive for you - I'm sure it's still under warranty if you just got it recently

Good luck.

If its just an exchange, just bring in your receipt and tell them you mailed in the rebate. I assume you want to exchange the product. If they wont do the exchange tell them they can keep the new box with the UPC and you just want the drive and you'll take your own box back home.
