To make a long story short I cannot install the ATI Control Panel for my Radeon 9000 otherwise Fast Writes wont work. However, even at 1280x1024 I can still see a bit of jaggies, does anyone know if there is a way in the system registry to enable Anti-Alaising for my card? In the ATI software section or elsewhere? I think ill need about 2x.

Thank you in advance!

I don't think you want to enable AA on a 9000 unless you want to watch a slideshow.

If you want higher image quality than what is seen at 1280x1024, you need a faster card. The 9000 just isn't built for that.

the ati cards do scle better when aa/af is turned on, however, no matter what, a toyota camry isn't going to outpace a ferarri even if it beats a kia :) if you get my drift

NO NO NO, I am asking if anyone know HOW to turn it ON with the REGISTRY. When I install the ATI Control Panel it disables my Fast Write so I cant use that! Anyone at all?

For me it rewards an approximate 35% performance increase in games and in 3DMark03. So I like to have my Fast Writes on. :)

Maybe you also have fast RAM, so it can have more throughput. Plus being a 9700 Pro helps a lot. :)

There is a setting to enable AA in the registry I forget the exact path but like the other guys said AA is going to kill your performance a 9000 may be able to hand;e AA better than whatever nvidia has in that market segment but both will act like dogs with AA enabled just maybe the readon will do a little better. I'm sorry about the regentry I think it is something like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ATI TECHNOLOGIES somewhere In there I belive sorry if that doesn't help.

Even though you're not much help when you open the ATI Control Panel go to the SmartGart tab.

Install the ATI drivers without smartgart. Install the video driver with with the ati setup for installing the video driver. Then uninstall the display driver. Restart and the
found hardware wizard should pop up. Point it to the directory with the ATI driver.
The smartgart is supposed to test your system for stability so it's probably disabling fast writes for a reason.

Go to HKEY LOCAL MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, Control, Video. Delete everything in there to make it easier. Uninstall the video drivers then reinstall them. Now
go back and there and it should have just one folder with a bunch of numbers. Expand it and their should be a 0000 folder. Open it and you should see
AnisoDegree 0= app prefernce, 2= 2X, 4=4x, 8=8x and 16=16x
AnisoType 0=App preference 1=Performance 2=Quality
AntiAlias 1= App Preference 2=On
AntiAliasSamples 2=2x 4=4x 6=6x
These are string values

Click the OpenGL folder to get the ones for it
OGLAnisoType 1=performance 2=quality
OGLFullSceneAAScale 2=2x 4=4x 6=6x
OGLMaxAnistropy 2=2x 4=4x 8=8x 16=16x
OGLWaitVerticalSync 0=off 1=App preference 2=On
OGLTruformMode 0=Off 1=App preference
OGLEnableKTXBufferRegion 0=disable 1=enable
OGLForceZBufferDepth 0=disabled 16=force 16bit 24= force 24bit

These are DWord values I'm not sure what values to use
OGLEnableFastFullSceneAA think 1=enabled
OGLLODBias
OGLTextureOpt

You may need to create a new key named OpenGL if you don't see one when clicking the + next to the 0000 folder.

You can enable fast writes in the bios of some motherboards. I just uninstalled my video drivers then restarted windows found hardware installed the driver and no more smartgart for me.

Viper96720: Maybe you are right, because I do get a little flickery screens in JK2. :( But so far my only test for Fast Writes has been 3DMark03 so I guess I should try JK2 instead. And thanks for the registry links, that was really helpful! :)

And I am using the BIOS to enable Fast Writes, it was always on, SmartGART just disabled it. :(
