Hi all,

I've got a windows install running on a drive where it was initially set up as IDE. I just recently picked up a 64gb ssd drive that i wanted to plug into the system to use as a cache drive with intel's smart response technology. However, in order to do this i need to switch the sata controller to raid(xhd) mode, and windows does not like that. As a side question - doesn't SRT work just as well if it's running in AHCI mode? I dont have any plans of running a raid.

Is there some way i can get this working without having to reinstall windows?

I looked on the gigabyte site http://www.gigabyte.us/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3855&dl=1#driver and the only driver they have is a pre-install driver - i.e. press F6 when first installing windows

I found this which suggests i just need to make a simple registry edit:

But how would i go about installing the drivers?

Thanks for any help

edit: forgot to mention, if it matters my mobo is a gigabye GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 (rev. 1.0)

i think it got it all working - although so far i'm not very impressed. rebooted windows a few times and i'm not seeing too much of a difference. seems to take just about as long to boot as it did before (i know bios post times wont change), although the desktop seems more responsive now right after booting - before the desktop would be a bit sluggish for a minute or so after rebooting while windows was finishing loading whatever drivers/programs run at startup.

I really don't think you would notice a huge difference, it would be very minor.
That's contrary to what i've heard every where else. Everyone else was saying enabling the smart response tech from intel made a noticeable and significant improvement in speed.

Maybe i just need to let it run longer before it's cached enough stuff to make a difference.

Oh my fault I miss read your post. I thought you installed on the 64gb and were doing ide to ahci switch. But you have a spindle hdd and this a cache drive. You need to wait longer so it caches things since it does it on what you use and you just barely did it.

yes, sorry about the confusion. Initially my question was switching from ide to ahci. Turns out that wasn't nearly as hard to do as i thought. Basically just flipping a switch in the registry, reboot, and then install the drivers from the mobo website.
