Yes, you can create a non-live account and get achievements too.

Yeah, but he want them to show up on his live account... I'm not sure you can do that.

I don't think you can transfer points that were gained on an offline account to a live account (silver or gold).

When you got your 360, you should have created a 360 Silver account, basically a 'profile' that you play your games under and are what your saved games and achievements are tied to. These are accessible online, from what I understand. And if, or rather WHEN, you upgrade your account to Gold, all of those will stay on your account.

not exactly your situation because the article says you have a previous live account on xbox.com, but it might work anyway:

Xbox 360: How to keep achievements from an offline profile when you create a new Gamertag on Xbox LIVE:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940309/en-us

i think when i did it, i hit, join xbox live. it signed me out of my profile, then when it was time to type in a gamertag, i signed back in, and everything seemed to work. no guarantees though.

EDIT: upon re-reading that thoroughly confusing help page, it seems like you have to buy MS points to rename the profile at some point.

I don't know if I fully understand your question, but I believe I did something similar to what you're talking about just yesterday.

I've had my 360 + XBL Gold account since April 2007. I have a friend that has regularly played a bunch of games in local co-op with me but we can rarely play online because his was simply an offline account. Because he plans on getting a 360 within the next year, he decided to just buy the XBL Live subscription card so he can start accruing online stats (Halo), achievements, etc. To do this, I logged completely out of my own (XBL Gold) account and we signed in as his offline account. Once his was the only account signed in, we clicked on one of the 50 "Join Xbox Live!" ads that showed on the dashboard when only the offline account was logged in. :p

Upon entering his account information and putting the subscription code in, it transferred all of his achievements he earned offline with me (Gears of War co-op, Marvel: UA co-op, Halo 3 co-op, etc.) to his new XBL Gold account. When the process was done, he had about 1000 points right off the bat.

In a nutshell, yes as long as you at least make an offline gamertag. The achievements are tied to the gamertag that was used when the game was played and it doesn't matter if you have live or not.

When I bought my 360 I just made an offline gamertag and started playing games, and got a few achievements also. After awhile I decided to hook it up to live so I could grab some demos. After hooking it up to the internet, I logged into my offline gamertag and hit join live. I just followed the prompts on screen. I did have to pick a different gamertag name, but it changed my offline gamertag to the new live one. All my achievements are now listed under the new gamertag.
