Can I dual boot Win NT4 and Win 2k? How?

currently i dual boot NT and win98 and no problems. Problem is i'm using PPTP tunneling software which is only (I am told) only for NT. so I thought I could use win2k for USB support etc? Have u experienced or forsee any problems with NT and Win2K multiple boot setup?

You can. Just when you go to install Win2K, make sure you do not upgrade your installation of NT 4 and that you install W2K in a different folder (instead of WINNT, use WINNT2K or something like that).

Better yet, install the OS's on separate partitions. I would install NT4 on the first partition (unless you plan on using tiny partitions) so that it stays under the ~8gig limit and 2K on the second partition as it is more flexible.

It's possible, though why would you want to dual boot the two, they are both NT based operating systems, so PPTP should work with Win2K, 2K can run both NT, and 9x programs.

The only word of caution that I have is that W2K will upgrade the NTFS of the NT4 drive. If that drive is ntfs then make sure that you have the latest SP on the NT4 system.

Yeah. You will need to have at least SP 5 installed on your machine for Windows NT 4 to read an NTFSv5 drive.

To complicate the question further, what if I also install linux?
What should be the order of installation. I guess one should put it on a different partition.
Should I use FAT or NTFS then?

Install linux in a different partition. It will use it's own retarded partitioning setup. Use NTFS for Win2k. I would install Win2k last since it will detect the other operating systems and setup its boot loading program for each of the operating systems. You could use Lilo (Linux Loder), but I like Win2k's boot loader much better.

I also do not see why you would dual boot between Win2k and NT4 since they are both based on the NT kernel. If anything, I would suggest dual booting between 98SE and 2k, or triple booting linux, 98SE, and 2k, if you want linux in there.
