Is this possible?
Anyone have any other tips to get more battery life other than buying an extended battery?

I'm sure if you can root it you can do that. I've done it on my old Desire Z mobile phone, both underclock and undervolt.

Head over to XDA Developers for heaps of info.

My wife has the same phone now that i think about it and her battery life is pretty bad. We got the extended battery, rooted and underclocked and it was still pretty piss poor. I've put the stock rom back on seeing as a new update was released last week, but that seems to have done more bad than good.

The only tips are these really:
Set screen for a constant brightness, medium for example.
Turn off 3G when you're not using it
Turn off Bluetooth
Turn off vibrating keyboard and non essential sounds.
Turn off or reduce sync times for email, facebook, twitter etc.....

yeah honestly phones should do pretty well while sleeping and idle, there's no need to undervolt.

i'd probably rigorously scrub your phone for apps and syncing events. its those wakelocks that will kill your battery. and not just wakelocks alone, wakelocks that consume data or initiate data connections will waste a lot of power

things like:
- gtalk
- latitude
- facebook/twitter syncing
- google+ auto uploads
- also as the previous poster mentioned, vibrating or nonessential vibrating will waste battery too.

The SGS2 imo doesn't have the best reception, and so I think a lot of my battery loss was due to it trying to connect when it had trouble connecting. But there's not much you can do about that but to miminimze the number of sync events.

Have you tried using an extended battery? The extended battery from the verizon galaxy nexus fits and you can still get the factory back cover on.

Ive got my tmobile SGS2 underclocked at 1458 (stock is 1510) and its very stable. You want to make sure your phone is hitting deep sleep too (use cpuspy from play store to check).

You can downclock but its not going to make a vast difference.

How much do you rely on apps using background data?
If you dont you could probably save a lot of battery using Juice Defender or Deep Sleep battery saver, both are available in the market.

Theres also an official extended battery for the S2 that fits quite nicely without making it too tubby.

Screen uses more power than the CPU, especially if you're looking at a bunch of bright white images. Turn down screen brightness first before looking into undervolting.

Is that the GIIX (SGH-T989), or the "regular" G2?

Because I have the T989 (codename "Hercules"), and I find the battery life to be absolutely phenomenal...

Just buy a second standard size battery and carry it around in your wallet and swap it out when the first one dies.

If you buy it from Samsung they come with a little charger so you don't need to put the dead one back in your phone to charge it. I think i paid like ~30$ for the spare for my Galaxy Nexus.

This. Its the only way to roll with a SGS2.

Heck I overclocked mine the other day expecting to eat more battery life (because I can with a spare) and it actually gave me better life because the kernel I used undervolted the lower frequencies by default.
