Can I do this with 2 routers?

I have a G-Router hooked up to the modem, and I have a computer on each floor. The cable modem is on the second floor. On the first floor is the laptop , which gets great signal. In the basement, I have a desktop with not-so-great signal. I have another wireless B-Router lying around, of the same brand.

I was wondering, can I somehow put the b-router on the first floor so that it transmits to the basement?

Is this called "bridging?"

Also, does the B-Router need to be hooked up to a PC?

You could share the network connection from your laptop if it has an ethernet port. If you plug it into your B-router's WAN port, you could connect to the B-router's wireless network.

That's how I would do it, but that's kind of messy. The real networkers may have another solution for you. Otherwise, just get one of these.

Anyway you can have the cable modem moved to the first floor? Having the G router on the first floor would probably work the best. I've never had cable before (only dsl) so I dunno how possible that is.

There might be a way to setup the extra router as an access point. Usually you do that by doing this http://ezlan.net/router_AP.html but since it's not hooked up straight to the other router I'm not sure.
