I have a HP HDX16, its got:

Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz
4GB Ram
750GB HD
Nvidia 9600M GT 512MB

The screen is broken, it just won't turn on, the computer works as I was using it by plugging it into an HD TV. However, I can no longer find the charger for the laptop. So my only option is to buy a charger or to turn this laptop into something else. Any ideas what I can do with this? I have another laptop laying around that works fine, has the charger and everything, anyway I can make a frankenstein laptop by meshing the two together?

see if the two have similar specs ( core2 / ddr2 ). check to see if people have gotten that exact cpu to work with your working laptop. you should be able to move the cpu/ram/hdd/dvd-cd over. if the screen is actually physically fine - dump it on ebay.

I actually just found a charger for it, connected it to a tv. The computer boots but i forgot the password. So I tried to enter bios to reformat, however, the bios just shows a bunch of random blue blocks it looks retarded. This is what the bios looks like.

My guess is that 9600M has developed a cold solder joint internally. There are dozens of Youtube videos showing how to use a heatgun or hairdryer to attempt to reflow the solder, but know that there is a science to doing it (you MUST protect the surrounding areas from the heat on the part that needs reflowed) and the issue could potentially return anywhere from a month to a year later.

I just picked up a Dell Inspiron yesterday with the same issue, and I already told its owner to assume it will fail again within a year even after I do this work to it.
