Can I do a clean install of xp home with a xp pro cd?

Hey guys,

Got a new Acer laptop that has a ton of bloatware on it. I would like to do a clean install of windows xp again to wipe off all the extra software installed on it. However, the laptop has xp home installed and I only have an xp pro cd. (Acer does not provide a cd for a clean install, just a image with the bloatware).

Would it be possible for me to do a clean install with my xp pro cd?

Thanks guys

No you can't, not if you want to activate it with the code. I just ran into this a few days ago, had an xp pro oem cd, but an xp home oem code. Didn't accept it. So I just torrented an xp home oem ISO and installed with that and used my code on the laptop to activate it. No problems.

Like posted, you ll need an XP Home OEM CD to install using the CDKey on the lappy.

Lemme know if you need a CD

So is it best to format it first? Then install XP Pro?

Yes - but it can't be an OEM XP PRo from a different maker. Retail or adcademic version - no problem. OEM CDs are "system aware."

Why not just uninstall all the bloat and scrub the registry, and leave well enough alone?

and scrub the registry? --------------> arguably not so?

There are some easy to use tools for that - the easiest is Norton Utilities WinDoctor. I find that helpful every time I unisnatll anything - it cleans up the leftovers.

what's the problem? get a copy of winxp pro including serial and WGA crack (torrent, dc, whatever). format and install. big deal...

Why not just get a copy of WinXP pro academic from your school? It's dirt cheap (considering how they arse rape you on tuition).
