Can I delete .tmp folders?

Howdy!

6 year old Averatec laptop, Winows XP. I did virus scans and Disk Cleanup, then I did a *.tmp search which found about 20 .tmp FILES which I deleted and now my computer runs much better. It also found 4 .tmp FOLDERS (folders not files):

fvir.tmp folder
sdel.tmp folder
ZAP2EB.tmp folder
ZAP7E.tmp folder

These folders were empty when I checked the contents. They are listed as being last modified over a year ago. Can I safely delete these folders without causing problems?

Thanks!

I've had trouble with XP and certain 3rd party install programs that leave information in the temp file that is used if you want to uninstall the app. So it isn't cut and dried that you can delete everything in the temp directory. If you aren't hurting for space, don't sweat it. Just let it be.

You shouldn't rely on 3rd party software to uninstall itself properly. In my experience it's extremely rare for a program to remove everything it installs/changes. Use Total Uninstall or something similar to monitor an install, and properly uninstall it when the time comes. Malware has a nasty habit of residing in the Temp folder, so it should be cleared out regularly.
