can I copyright this?

so work has really screwed me over and I want to now copyright an MS Access application I developed for them which would render them totally useless if it went away. Is it possible to do this?

Also, I own a domain name and developed a website for the company I work for. Can I remove this site without getting fired, since it is my domain and I pay for the hosting?

Thanks

If the domain name is under your name and is in no way legally affiliated with your company, then I suppose you could?

As for the first, I believe you have to fork out a few grand to get a copyright, or is that a patent?

Anyways, why would you screw over your company just because you were fired for being incompetent?

i wasn't fired or anything, they just royally pissed me off. And the website and Access app I built has nothing to do with my official job - just extra stuff on the side to help out..

anything created on company time belongs to the company
and if you're salary, that means even if you created it at home

They could fire you for removing the site. But I don't think you could copyright the "application."

i'm pretty sure you can't if you made it for them while you worked for them

what's the point?

just leave the company if they've already paid for your work. sell them your domain name and transfer stuff. it's silly to be so petty.

they likely have a 'small text' somewhere that will state work made on company time is legal property of the company. This would mean u have no leg to stand on.

If you created it, then it would be your responsability to maintain it, no? You'd be blamed for this "virus." I'd probably fire you for being so incompetent.

If you developed this stuff on company time or using company resources, the company retains the rights.

Perform a research for "Intellectual Property"

Should help clear up this issue for you as to your rights

As for the domain - are you not being compensated for the cost and maintenance fo the website. If not, the hosting should completely be addressed by the company and you should look to a raise if you remain on with them

the company i work for is technology illiterate.

maybe it will just "get a virus" and disappear.....
Are you sure you never want to work in this industry again? People do talk about their bad employees.

If you're annoyed, just stop doing new work "on the side," but destroying work you've already done could get you fired, blacklisted, and possibly even in legal trouble.

It's also petty, childish, and unethical.

and you could take down the website since it is on your host and your dime. You probably need to notify them so they can relocate it though to avoid downtime.
