Can i convert .mid to .mp3?

Why the heck would you want to? I don't think I midi is going to compress any smaller or have any better sound quaility.. what would be the point????

You can probably use Winamp's DiskWriter output to write the .mid to a .wav file, then use any mp3 encoder you like to encode the .wav to .mp3.

He might've made a really cool house/trance tune in midi and want it converted to mp3 for online distribution/trading (e.g. via Napster).

That isn't strange at all, especially if he's concerned with the file sounding the same on any configuration. Remember that MIDIs are sequenced, meaning that different synthesizers might interpret the data differently. The most classic example would be the difference between an FM and wavetable MIDI synthesizer. BIG difference....

Yes that's simple. Play it and either use SoundRecorder (or CoolEdit or whatever) to record it (assuming you have a Full Duplex sound card), or just use WinAmp to play it and change the output to the DiskWritter output plugin (which will write a wav file [as suggested above]) then convert the wav (from either method) to mp3 (using Audio Catalyst or whatever).

the winamp method DOES NOT work... well.. it didn't for me. Why i wanted to do it was because my brother has the FF7 psx cds.. and you can get the midi's from that... and it beats paying whatever for an import cd of the soundtrack to it.

Maybe it was a fluke or something... but if you've done it before.. what version of winamp were u using?

The reason why im' converting is because FLASH 5.0 doesn't support .mid files... i'm doing my french project using flash.. Flash only support .mp3 or .wav......
how can i convert it with winamp? im' a newbie ..... i don't know how to use winamp !! PLEASE HELP
