I need to connect my laptop with the "standard" RJ45 connector 10/100 ethernet to an older network that uses the coax ethernet. Would the best way for this be some type of transeiver? I have an old hub with a bnc uplink port - would that work? This is for a temporary connection only, 3 days. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

I would try and find a hub with BNC and RJ45 connections both on it then hook it up to the existing network and plug into one of the RJ45's. Second choice might be to find an old PCMCIA card with both types of connectors.

If you have a spare NIC with RJ-45 connection, a cross over RJ-45 patch (null network connection cable), and an access to one of the desktops that is on the network.

You can add the RJ-45 capable NIC as a secondary NIC to the desktop, and connect the Laptop to this card. To connect the Laptop you need a ?null cable?, since no hub is in between.

Good ideas, I don't want disturb the existing machines on the network. It looks like a hub with both types of connectors may be the way to go.
