Can I connect 2 computers to a printer using a usb hub?

Reasonable Doubt

Senior member
Can I connect 2 computers to a printer using a usb hub? If not what is the best way to share a printer without having a to have a computer always on?

Thanks in Advance.

There are several different ways to do it, but it would be best to get the make and model number of your printer so we can first check its capabilities.

I share two printers with three computers and none of them have to be left on. The solution is a LAN, and the printers are installed as network printers, and all three computers are on the network. It's really fairly easy to do.

very interesting question you ask really as you would imagine it would be possible in kind of a "double adaptor" type way. I doubt it works though but be sure to update us if it does.

If not though then as Corkyg said make them network ones - although this is only possible if they are network ready otherwise you need to connect them to an always on PC and share them

Using a hub no, you would need a switch. USB works only with 1 master host and the rest of the devices are slaves. Two pc connected on a hub would try to compete for master.
