Can I configure the 4th and 5th mouse button in Linux! (Intellimouse)

I have been using the M$ Intellimouse in Windows, and have really become dependant on the 4th and 5th button. I use it for BACK and FOWARD, for web pages (and folders).

While the SCROOL WHEEL works for me in Linux, how can I make the "outer-left" and "outer-right" buttons work in Linux.

I have not been able to find the answer to this on-line....

I found a couple of threads around the net just doing a search. Its a bit complicated for me to explain off the top of my little head. Just search with google for 'linux intellimouse', or smthing....
